The CanSat competition is a student design-build-launch competition providing students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience whilst addressing technology, physics and programming challenges. The challenge is to build a functional small-scale satellite that has the size and shape of a soda can carrying out a scientific mission. A CanSat is launched to a few hundred meters altitude by a rocket or a drone then, dropped from the platform to begin its mission.
The primary objective of the competition is to carry out a scientific experiment, such as downloading pressure and temperature data during the drop, and achieve a safe landing using a parachute. Student teams participating in the CanSat contest are given three weeks to design build and test their CanSats.
